24 Dollars a Year to Save the Earth

On April 16, 2007, in Save the World, by Mika

Green PowerFor about $2/mo, I signed up for PGE’s Green Source Renewable Energy at my house.

According to PGE, “Green Source electricity is approximately 50 percent new wind power, 40 percent new geothermal and 10 percent new biomass (wood waste) power.”

I can’t remember now where I read it, but supposedly by switching to green energy for a year it is almost equal to the typical car owner not driving as far as carbon emissions go. Not sure if there’s any truth to that, but for the small amount extra it costs, this is totally worth it.

Sure easy for you, you don’t even have power right now!

I do think it’s a cool idea. When we build out place in Nevada we’re going to try and be as much off the grid as we can. Our friend is building her house with SIPS right now

    SIPS – Structural Insulated Panels

Once she got a good builder and beat the first contractor into a pulp, it’s been going well. They’re pulling wiring right now. I’m consulting on the whole house audio, which I’m learning as fast as I can.

I do too have power. In fact, I have two meters on my house. And both are turned on. I also have 2 gas meters, and 2 water heaters. So beat that. :P
