I got a tour of the ZGF building from Roger who works there. I’m very impressed - some very cool stuff like windmills, radiant cooling & heating and the design itself is fantastic too.
They use rainwater for toilet flushing, which is super cool. But what really cracks me up is the signs that the City of PDX forced them to install at the urinals. It’s bit fuzzy in the photo but says “Rainwater - do not drink.” To which I say, “Really?!”

I was walking along the downtown waterfront area today at lunch, and saw this little house boat. It doesn’t look like it would float well, or do very well anywhere that there is waves.
It’s kind of odd to see 4 chairs on top of it, because it doesn’t look like you’d fit 4 people inside. Kind of cool though, and very much weird Portland.

This looks really, really painful. I highly recommend you don’t try it.
I don’t know who figured this out, but it’s a really cool trick to remember if you need to inflate a tire and don’t have a pump handy, but do somehow happen to have WD40 or other flammable fluid and a lighter.
Here’s some photos that I got in email from my buddy Rusty of the sunken US Airways plane being raised out of the Hudson river. What an amazingly successful event this turned out to be, and considering the other end in the spectrum of possibilities. Incredible.
