I am smarter than Mensa
Posted on March 24, 2007 in Friends, Life | 2 Comments
Yep folks, that’s right. I just beat a Mensa member at Scrabble, and not by a few little points here and there. It was a come-from-behind win, starting with almost a 50 point deficit and almost a 40 point win. Or something like that. In any case, my 4-letter words loaded with Z’s and Q’s took the win.
I fully expect excuses posted as blog comments below, Miss JJJSJ. Feel free, but remember who the winner was. I am open for re-matches, or best-of-3 series. This time I won’t make up words and eat 40 points in initial penalties.
PS. I’m one of those previous ESL kids….

My Most Expensive Bottle of Wine
Posted on March 15, 2007 in Friends, Life, Work | Leave a Comment
I’ve spent a bit on some vino before, but this one tops the cake. My boss cashed in a bet that I lost. Only $141.95 per person for dinner… But Adam, you make the best pork chop I’ve ever had. In fact, it’s in the top 2-3 dinners I’ve ever eaten, and absolutely perfect every time I have one.

2 hours without phone = $27 poorer
Posted on March 10, 2007 in Life | 4 Comments
So last night Jen, Jessica, Ang, Dave, Sean and I went to a Winterhawks hockey game. After getting in, and being committed to 2 hours without my phone on, I headed over to the ATM and grab some cash. Looking at the receipt, it appears that I am now overdrawn…
Wups, I guess I forgot to transfer some money, or one of those checks for the subcontractors working on my house cleared. Or maybe it’s just because I haven’t been paying attention for the last month or so. Whatever.
Being the stick-to-what-you-say type that I am, I refuse to turn on the phone and call the bank to transfer money to clear the balance, and this little overdraft cost me $27.
Seriously though, what a crock! $27 for this - it’s kind of ridiculous, especially considering I have money in my other accounts at the bank.
Looking for a new Digital Camera
Posted on March 7, 2007 in Tech | 2 Comments
So I’ve been thinking about getting a new digital camera lately, since I can’t find the charger cable for the one I have. I also don’t really like the other one too much, because I went with the “smaller the camera the better” idea when I bought it, and frankly it’s almost too small and a big pain. I guess it’s really more about the fact that it’s not durable, and I’m afraid to break it by getting a little bit of rain (happens here in Portland, I hear) on it.
My thought is to get one of those waterproof ones, for my next digital camera, but I don’t yet know which one to get. I’m kind of thinking about a Olympus Stylus 770 SW because I like the size, and it’s good to a depth of 33ft in case I drop it off a kayak or boat in Belize or something.
