As a consumer in the software world, nothing makes me happier than when the software you are using checks to see if you need to update to a new version so you don’t have to check repeatedly or sign up for some dumb email notification list that no doubt comes tied to a marketing list.

But, shouldn’t these notifications be checking what the current version you’re using is before letting you know there is a new version available, and if it’s the same version then just leave you alone? Not everyone seems to think so…

Here’s a few photos of the house during the snow we got here in PDX in December 2008. There’s also a fun one of Vio’s dad dressed as Santa for giving presents to the little kids. I have also found a simple photo plugin for picasa, which I’ve set up to power my photo page recently. So far it’s working good.

Here’s a couple photos from Hawaii that Brandy (aka Crazy Spin Girl) took when She and Sean were in Kauai with Vio and I this August.

Posting these photos has got me thinking that I should really find a way to get a photo album on my site but I don’t want to pay for a Flickr account - it’s just yet one more thing to pay a monthly/annual usage fee for and all these $50/year things keep adding up. Maybe I’ll try Picasa and see if there’s a good WP Plugin for Picasa. Anyone have suggestions/experience with one?

I figured I’d see if I can come up with a way to automatically twitter from delicious, and I’ve found one that is pretty easy to set up.

Basically it involves 4 easy steps and waiting for a few minutes for delicous to update a tag-specific RSS feed. Here’s how it can be done:

1. Set up an account at EasyTweets if you don’t already have one. They have free or paid options, so pick the flavor of your choice. Set up your account and link it to your twitter account so you’re ready to go later.

2. I’m assuming that if you don’t have a delicious account, this won’t be of much use for you so you’ve ignored this post already. So for those of you who do have one, just tag one of your bookmarks with a special tag that you want to use for the automatic-twitter-to-delicious functionality and tag a post with the tag you chose. I used “tweet” for mine.

3. Go to your tag page on delicious (ex: delicious.com/username/tag) and click on the rss feed specific to that tag. Sometimes you have to wait a few minutes for delicious to update this page. I’m not sure of their schedule, but for me it was about 3-5 minutes.

4. Once you know that there is an item in your selected RSS feed, go back to EasyTweets and add the feed to the account of your choice from the dashboard by clicking the RSS icon, entering the URL on the next screen and filling in the rest of the details per your choice.

That’s it, and you’re done. EasyTweets will check your RSS feed for the tag of your choice on delicious at the interval you set and post any new items up to the limit that you chose when you set up your feed in EasyTweets.

And the proof of this will be my tweet here.
