Gmail IMAP Server Troubles

Gmail now offers IMAP access in addition to POP so you can use one account to sync your mail with multiple computers using Outlook, Thunderbird or whatever software flavor you want.
I set it up on my Tmobile dash to play around with it before I screw up everything on my computer and have to go back and fix it. I’ve been using it for about 2 days now, and it has only successfully worked once. I tried it through a different computer and set up IMAP on it, and it still doesn’t work.
I know the logins are fine, but it looks like it is just a timeout issue more than anything. Maybe it’s just because it’s new and there are not enough resources dedicated to it by Google yet.
Is anyone else having this issue too?

As of June 2008 the same problems are occasionally still there, unfortunately. I cannot excess my mail through IMAP for a whole day now. The web interface works well, and interestingly only one of my two Gmail accounts is affected….

I’ve used it for some time via IMAP and it seems to work pretty good most of the time. In the past few days, though, I’ve had a steady stream of dropped connections and login failures. When I can connect it works fine, but when I can’t it doesn’t work at all (duh). I also seem to be having problems sending mail. It will go just fine but it fails copying to my sent items folder three or four times before it works.
